Two masted-schooner with cosy on board atmosphere

Noorderlicht was built in 1910 in Flensburg, Germany as a three-masted schooner and served as a light vessel on the Baltic. In 1991 she was re-rigged and refitted as a two-masted schooner.

Since 1994 the Noorderlicht has sailed around the waters of Svalbard and Norway with her red hull. During this time the ship has become an icon in the Arctic arena and been loved by many. Because of her small size and draft, the ship offers a great way to discover the remote areas of Spitsbergen and Norway. In addition, aboard Noorderlicht guests have the opportunity to help sail the boat – hoisting the sails and steering the ship. An onboard zodiac allows excursions ashore under supervision of an experienced guide at times when the ship doesn’t have a mooring on a quay. Every day there are hikes planned (weather and ice permitting), to enjoy the wildlife, geography, flora and fauna and the history of the area.

The ship is authentically decorated with a cosy, informal and nautical atmosphere on board. There is a spacious seating area in the upper and lower deck salon for the maximum 20 passengers. Also enjoy the small library, cosy bar and 10 twin cabins with upper and lower berths, a built-in closet, a washbasin with cold and warm water and a mirror. In your cabin you will also find 220V power outlet to charge your electronics. Furthermore the ship has 5 WCs and 4 showers which are for common use.

Passengers:           20 passengers in twin cabins (upper and lower bunks without ladder). Accommodation is rustic but cosy.
